A friend has told me that taking D3 and K2 together can potentially reduce insulin resistance. Also supposed to improve bone health and cardiovascular health. Anyone know anything about this or tried these supplements out?
I had a doctor's appointment yesterday about something unrelated but when he said "is there anything else" I asked about vitamin D. He said that the normal blood test doesn't test directly for vitamin D but one of the things measured, I think it was a kidney function, would show up a possible shortage. He said if you are in the south of the UK and you get at least 30mins a day of sunlight on bare arms etc. between March and September that should be enough to last you the rest of the year.Vitamin D3 also helps with maintaining the immune system. Vitamin D is produced naturally by the body when exposed to sunlight, but as we don't get much of that between October and April it is recommended that Vitamin D supplement should be taken during those months at least.
I take Vitamin D3 and K2 which helps the D3 to be absorbed.
If you are vegetarian/vegan you should be aware that D3 supplements are made from animal sources, but D2 is from vegetable sources.
My (new) GP did include Vit D test with last 2 HbA1c tests, and both showed normal levels. I do try to get time out in the sun during Spring/Summer & Winter, and I go somewhere sunny, usually Thailand now, for 4 weeks in January/February.I had a doctor's appointment yesterday about something unrelated but when he said "is there anything else" I asked about vitamin D. I take Adcal + D3 on prescription as preds have a deleterious effect on bones so I take K2 as it, or so I have read, helps with the uptake of calcium into the bones.
My wife gets very upset as it annoys her that in all the time I have been taking steroids I have never had a bone density test.
Is that on prescription?I go somewhere sunny, usually Thailand now, for 4 weeks in January/February.
