Today I had a brief overview introductory talk on dafne and what is involved... One thing that came up was in relation to carb counting: according to the hcp's: an omelette and salad doesn't count as carbs and therefore doesn't require a Bolus shot. In my own personal experience this just isn't true, and even a meal consisting of just protein and fats still raises bg levels, albeit slower and much less than outright carbs... Just curious as to what you all think? Maybe dafne isn't the gold star crash course I always assumed it to be??

Now you are learning! DAFNE is designed as a way for all participants at all levels of knowledge to use MDI and understand how best to manage food and insulin. The finer points of gluconeogenesis in relation to a low carb diet (which isn't part of DAFNE) is rather ignored.

For what it is (dose adjustment for normal eating ) it is generally considered very valuable to the majority who have participated, and has the evidence of better glucose level management to support this.

There is, however, more than one way to eat normally, and this is where I believe DAFNE falls short.

It's worth attending, just to take what you need from it. But be guided by your own knowledge and experience to personalise it for you ;)

If only we didn't have to bolus for omelettes and salads.

Yes your right, both protein and fat can effect raise bg levels, albeit at a reduced and slower rate. Just the same, as Heathenlass says its worth attending as there's so much more to learn from the course, I particularly found the basal, exercise and sick day rules information particularly useful.
