DAFNE

yes the dietitians at the gwent are friends of mine actually but I dont work in that area .

Still waiting to go on my DAFNE course - apparently waiting for 1 year so have started to teach myself the basics. However I just thought I would add that in my area MERTON - a London borough we have "ALFFI" rather than DAFNE for type 1's! - Don't ask me what it stands for but I am guessing that one of the "F"'s is FOOD! who knows what the other ones stands for!

We also attend clinic run by team at Richmond House at the Gwent.

Do you think course would be of use to parent of diabetic child?

The consultant has told me I should attend this course. But after 30 years of type 1 and dose adjusting since 1988 I feel that this would be a waste of my time and the NHS resources. My HBAC1 results are always in the 6 range and I don't suffer too many hypos which cannot be treated by myself.

Oh yes I should add that when I first started adjusting dose to what I was eating and doing at the time I had to hide this fact from the doctors until this course became available a few years ago.

some people in Wales run dafne - like the royal glam but others dafydd. I have checked and a few of ny patients that went on a dafydd course were eventually type 1 - - expert is the course i sent most of the type 2s on locally but i also do an education session for type 2s - basic course which is ok for some people. problem is there are not enough courses!!

The DAFNE course rocks!

You will wonder how you ever managed without it. I thought i knew a lot until i went on this little baby! Now i can eat ANYTHING I WANT, WENNEVER I WANT and not even think about it.

Ice cream, chocolate, biscuits , cake, alcohol........it's awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get on it if you can. speak to your local NHS trust. if they don't run the course, you can pay private to go on the course in any other trust.

I have my life back and can't even remember what a hypo is. My last 3 month blood thingy was 6.8 which is well under the target of 7.

Sounds like my doctor I walk in the door sit down say nothing and get a prescription for antibiotics!

Kimmy

That's so funny-made me laugh out loud, and with my PMT I needed a laugh today!!. Great line Kim Suzanne. I can relate to it, of my previous GP-I felt honoured if he unstuck his face from the VDU to speak to me and even more if he turned to face me!
