I assume every body with type 2 diabetes has some damage or impairment to their pancreas. Correct me if I'm wrong.

What I'd like to know is can you tell how much damage has been done. Is there a relationship with how well you react to food.

For instance my evening meal today was a chicken and bacon bake with cheese sauce and some veg. The meal contained 25 gms of carbs and about 600 calories.

Before the meal my BG was 5.3 mmol/l and 2 hours after it was 6.2 mmol/l.

Does that say anything about how well my pancreas is working.

The only medication I'm on is 500 mg of metformin 3 times per day.

No sure it is necessarily damage.. some think it is because the pancreas has impaired function due to visceral fat surrounding it.. loose weight and the visceral fat goes allowing the pancreas/liver to work "normally".

I may be talking complete (*&&^%* But I thought T2's had either insulin resistance and or beta cell (in the pancreas) impairment. It is possible to calculate how much Insulin is sloshing around with a C-Peptide test
I know from an ultrasound test that neither my pancreas or liver have any noticeable amounts of fat around or in them. So either I am a few beta cells short of a full set, insulin resistant or both. I had hoped the test would show oodles of fat, so I had something to aim at with a view of putting D 'back in the box'
Alas not for me
