Hi All,

Long time listener first time caller...

I've recently started using the Dario meter in conjunction with an iPhone, after a lifetime of not testing properly & all the consequences it holds it's quite literally flipped my testing habits round 180 degrees in the space of a week!

I do have a question though, the app has the ability to suggest insulin doses, but to do this it requires you to input a correction factor (of how many mmol/L 1u of insulin will drop your sugars by, but also a carbs based correction factor measured in grams (oz if needed).

Does anyone know what this correction factor would be for Novorapid? I thought at first it would be my insulin ration (10g Carbs : 1u Insulin) but when using that the suggestions it comes up with are nuts (with a BG of 7.0 and a carb input of 30g/3cp it suggested 43u at one point!!).

The app itself is brilliant, and whilst I don't need the suggestions as I'm getting back to grips with counting/adjusting properly, it is a handy wee tool to have so I'm just looking to see if anyone on here would be aware of the numbers involved in what it's looking for to see if it can make things even better than it already has!

I've attached a couple of images of the screens in the app that I'm referring to along with it's explanation of what it is looking for in case that helps =)

Cheers dudes & dudettes!
Andy

You can work out your personal correction factor by using the 100 rule.

Add up your total daily units of basal and bolus insulin and divide that into 100. For example, if you took 16u basal and 16u bolus then that's 100/32 which is near enough 3. So 1 unit of novorapid will take your BG down by 3mmol/L

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the reply - so I'm aware of my unit corrective factor (currently sitting at 2 based on the above calculation)...it's the 2nd factor relating to the carbs (in grams) that the app is looking for that's caused me some confusion here - I've maybe not been very clear in my original post :/.

Cheers,
Andy

Thanks again - that one looks like it might have solved the suggestion issue, as the doses it's calculating look a little more sensible in comparison to what they were coming out at earlier!

Will let you know how it goes!

Thanks again,
Andy
