You have a point there. My mother used to feed us a teaspoonful of malt every morning before school as it was considered good for us. I would feel very sick and throw up after taking it. My mother asked my doctor as a child off the cuff, why malt made me sick. She replied " Not everybody can take malt, it can cause tummy upset" Maybe there was malt in the choc bar. I won't eat it again, no miss as I can do without chocolate. When I was eating it, I was thinking " This is not really nice, to strong lol"I have no problem with Hotel Chocolat products 85 percent or higher. I am wary of Lindt after finding malt in one of their products, husband is highly allergic.

Well count yourself lucky too, we had to scoff both....Count yourself lucky, we had to swig cod liver oil.
I like malt, we had it when I was a kid. Still like it nowadays, although I have not made home brew beer for years. I always had a good lick of the spoon when starting a brew off..Well count yourself lucky too, we had to scoff both....
(But I didn't really mind the mailt)

"Yuk" lolI used to love that stuff. Malt extract.
I used to suffer IBS as I had Campylobacter from a chicken that I had in a Chinese Restaurant. This, in turn, caused IBS... It was quite bad for a few months but then settled down. I don't eat wheat as I am on very low carb food. Maybe the chocolate was to strong for me as I am not really a chocolate eater, and kicked off my tummy pain. I am fine now though.Hi @derry60, Dark chocolate, yes please !! Just from reading, not as medical advice or opinion:
If you normally eat bread and other wheat-containing food it seems unlikely that it would be the traces of wheat in the chocolate.
There appear to be variations of the Lindt 85% with no traces of wheat mentioned in the ingredients, just to make life confusing!
But if your diet excludes wheat then it maybe worth seeing your doctor about it .
I gather that wheat can trigger irritable bowel symptoms in some people and be part of a reaction to gluten for those with coeliac disease.
Finally chocolate can cause or increase the chance of reflux - where acid comes up into one's food-pipe and maybe the antacid settled that. see mayoclininc.org - reflux.
If i have a square of 90% Lindt chocolate at night not long before bed, I sometimes have reflux and need an antacid.
I hope the episode does not put you off chocolate.!!
Mum also gave us a spoonful of Honey after the Malt..Yuk I hate honey also lolWell count yourself lucky too, we had to scoff both....
