Getting fed up with this Diabetes mularchy !
I am on day 3 of Metformin , and my reading is 9.3 on the monitor after eating salad and a mini Higgidy quiche four hours ago !
Does it take a while to kick in ,
I am on 500mg to start with , increasing to 2 X 500mg after 2 weeks .
Any help / info would be great !!
HBA1C was at 66 thats why they put me on this
"Patience young padawan!" - isn't that supposed to be YOUR line? Hehe
Thank you !! Your right !!The quiche won't be doing you any favours with the carbs in the pastry. Metformin doesn't really have a massive impact on BS levels- it helps with insulin resistance I believe and was a slimming drug originally I think so reduces appetite, with these effects taking several weeks to build up. BS control is going to com from weight loss, exercise and carb reduction.
Sound advice !! thank you !As the others said. Metformin isn't a miracle cure. It helps with various things going on in your body and is a good, safe drug, but will only reduce your levels to a limited extent. Only you can do that by changing your diet, exercising more, and losing weight (if you need to). It's down to you I'm afraid, but you are in the right place for help and support. Have a browse round and come back with any questions you have. If you give us a typical day's menu we may be able to show you where you are going wrong. Good luck!

Hi Yoda,
I was recently diagnosed and put straight on Metformin 500mg a day. My BG test in the doctor's surgery was 15.5 and was as high as 23 the day before!
I have been on the tablets for just over 2 weeks, and also eating the LCHF way (almost) for a little less time than that.
The graph below shows a steady decrease in BG levels although they are still not in the "safe" range. I have also lost 9 pounds in that time period.
So from my experience a combination of the Metformin, diet and increased exercise seems to be taking me in the right direction.
