Day three of my quitting smoking.

Took my 3rd 500mcg Champix this morning. I think they are working. Was at work at 9 and usually I smoke a fair bit (residential care for mentally ill) but today just had 2 roll ups and not really feeling like I want one either. No real side effects other than a little bit nauseousness for an hour or so after taking them, but that soon wears off.

My actual stop date is the 5th of December but I can see me knocking them on the head before then.

:)

Well done.

I'm still struggling with smoking

Champix is supposed to block the neurotransmitters in the brain that signal a desire or craving for nicotine.

I WILL stop and I'm thinking of all the money I will save and all the nice shiny new bits for my bike I can buy! (And of course the health benefits and the tightening up of my BG control!!)

Well done! if you can do that, you can do anything

Hi Aphex,
Good luck. The best Christmas present i ever gave myself was to quit smoking, i''ll be celebrating 8yrs the Dec 25th. One of the best suggestions i can make is to set a time each day and say "i won't have a smoke till 8pm", after a couple of days you'll find 8pm comes and goes before you remember to light up!. I went cold turkey, not for everyone but i had the insentive that my Mum died from chronic lung disease 9yrs ago (she was 65yrs) and by her not seeing her Grandchildren grow up (they were only 3 and 13mths at the time) i decided i'd be there for both my children and grandchildren to come. Sorry , i didn't mean to give you my life history, i'm just passionate about supporting anyone who has reached the stage in their lives where they wish to give up smoking.I'm here for you if you need any help, i'll support you all the way
Best wishes and good luck
Suzi x

Thanks all...

Wee update: 2 rollies today and no appearance of any side effects. I'm going longer and longer without and sometimes think to myself "God, haven't had a fag in ages" and letting out a little giggle :D

Same can be said with the Simvastatin. Control remains good (a little better in fact) and no guffs, cramps, spasms or anything.

Gargh!!! So busy.

I have a 3500 word care study to be in tomorrow (currently 2700 words in, a bit more to do and references to add) and a 4000 word reflective assignment in on Friday (about the same sort of wordage done but I'm running out of things to say: I did, I felt, I was aware, etc etc).

Two days in a row, sat at my comp typing away. I always leave my assignments to the last minute. Bad practice maybe, but I seem to like the pressure and can write loads more this way.

The plus side is that I've not had time to smoke - had one after breakfast with my coffee, and one at 4pm after I made a wholegrain bagel with bacon and egg.

These are the last assignments I have to do before I qualify in March...Hope they go alright as I won't feel like re-doing them if they refer me but based on previous assignments I'm aiming for B's again.

Hope everyone is well?! Just brewing up a rooibos tea and getting back to it.

Ciao for now! x

Just handed one of my assignments in (hurrah)

Met a colleague who thought we had another week for the other assignment. I told her it was this Friday but she didn't believe me. (I am right). Oh well.

Umm still only had a couple of rollies today - official stop date is next Friday. Will be great I reckon.

Oh and still no side effects from the Simvastatin meds. I must be a freak. Everyone has has /some/ issue with it it seems, but nothing with me. I don't even know if it's working!

Me neither. Actually considering the widepsread use of statins the numbers of people suffering side effects is pretty low BUT when you get them they can be severe.

Day 14

tomorrow is day 14 :)

officially my give up date, but unofficially i've not been ***** about giving up. and, im not even going to let the "one wont hurt" attitude creep in. cos one leads to two....etc etc.

only niggle is a bit of insomnia the past few nights. got some lavender oil burning away and a milky drink to see me off.

night all :)

Champix works to stop smoking...but it will shorten your life faster then smoking will..

I am a 57 year old man, very healthy and not over weight. body build and had no symptoms of diabetes. until 3 months after taking champix. I have type 1 and on 4 needles a day.

Bit of an update....

I fell off big time. Spent past 2 years working in a secure psych ward in Australia and smoked and drank. The smokers seemed to get all the gossip and be "in" with management. I failed.

Anyway. After realising my wife was pregnant, we planned to come back to the UK. In May we did that (WHY???)...... And the moment we got back I had another focus. Not to stop smoking for me, but to stop smoking for our child and my wife. That tactic worked. I've had 2 small rollies since we got back in May. I've not bought any, won't buy any.

Only niggle is I've put on about a stone and have THE worst belly ever. I can get that down though.

Well done aphex - you had the best reason possible for giving up smoking and that gave you the willpower to carry it out. After all these years of trying... With a little one around the house you won't want to relapse either. Don't worry about the weight - just cutting down a bit on the carbs should help with that. And I am sure you will be getting more exercise now!

Just out of interest - have you had an change in your levels since you stopped?
