I have an underactive thyroid and take levythyyroxine, also I am on simvastatin, mebeverine and lansazaprole. At my last blood test the results came back that I was in the prediabetic group, 38?( did not understand). Attended a session at local diabetic centre, which was good, but, scared me witless. I am trying to build up more exercise, I have lost over a stone and eating a far more sensible diet(Hairy Bikers works well for me). When I look at the symptoms list for diabetes I think , good grief!!
I am also attending a Health Trainer, but, I am not too keen, not much seems to be done.
on another issue, I have read that an underactive thyroid can increase the likelihood of developing Type 2 Diabetes and statins can do likewise. The doctors just smile when I ask about thgis as they dom when I ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm glad you diet is working for you, I don't know the one you are saying, is it a way of eating you can continue with?

statin 0.5% increase risk of diabetes, but the benefits are worth the small risk IMO, we have a thread on statins every week or so and it seems to come down to what you want to think about them

I think 38 5.6% is in the normal range and not prediabetic. I think over 42 6% is generally prediabetic, but it doesn't hurt to look after yourself and cut the carbs

Hello and welcome.

I think before you start worrying yourself to death you need to obtain a print out of your blood test results. You are entitled to this. If you ring your surgery they will sort this out for you. You really need to know exactly what the results were. If this was an Hba1c test at 38 then you are in the normal range. Pre-diabetic starts at 42, and diabetic at 48. Maybe you misheard the 38? Do check this out.
