Dead in bed syndrome

I've recently read some diabetes news about a 20 something year old dying in her sleep due too dead in bed syndrome. Dead in bed syndrome is a term used to describe the sudden unexplained deaths of young people with type 1 diabetes.

The syndrome is characterised as when someone with insulin dependent diabetes has gone to bed seemingly perfectly fine and has been found dead in an undisturbed bed.

I just can't even sleep tonight does anyone know anything much about this? I've been diagnosed for 3 years this October. I'm 18 years old.
 
Diabetes hate it there is always something that scares the c@@p out of me. The only way is to live you life and try not to worry about all the things that can go wrong.
 
I find the hypo theory a bit random as when I'm low and asleep I have basically rearranged the bedroom!

As for worrying about it, frankly there's little that can be done about it. The age old adage about being hit by a bus tomorrow must be considered. The longer we spend worrying about our condition the less time we have to enjoy life!

Yes, dont go to bed with bg levels less than 7-8mmol unless you can stay awake all night.
 

This is my DSNs advice also, but if I go to bed at 7-8 then I also wake up at 7-8 and have to fight to lower it all day.

It's a vicious cycle but its obviously not worth the risk
 
Yes I agree. If you use insulin pen don't go to sleep without eating something if your sugar is below 8....there's too much unpredictability in the way long acting insulin works.
If you use an insulin pump you can go to sleep even with 6 or 7 as the risk of hypo is much lower and the way insulin works is so much more predictable and safe.
