Dealing with cuts (wounds not money!)

Hi Diagnosed T2 earlier this year. I've been pretty clumsy lately and keep cutting myself just doing kitchen chores.

Mostly tiny wee things but boy do they sting and seem to take ages to heal over.

I've looked online and I realise cuts can take longer to heal but I see advice against using anti-bacterial creams/wipes/wash lotion etc

I hate using plasters and dressings. (I need my fingers free and unadorned!)

Anyone got any tips? I see a spray-on 'plaster' thing, is it any good?
 
HCP told me to wash with water, air dry, cover with plaster and if pink the next day get it looked at soon as poss. He said I should keep any cuts or grazes dry, not use fancy creams etc.

As a former chef, the first thing I learned as a newbie at college, was to step back if a knife or glass slips, and never attempt to catch it. Other safety rules were never put knives or glasses in washing up until you are ready to do them ie don't go feeling for them under the washing up bubbles. "A blunt knife is a dangerous knife", as it takes too much pressure to use and then if it slips can give you a bad cut. I was also taught to use a knife tip not a nail or finger if a can top isn't far enough proud of the can after using can opener. Some cheese graters and potato peelers are badly designed, if something cuts you, I suggest replacing it.
I would always wear a plaster in the kitchen, as it stops bacteria from food getting into the cut.

You're right about washing knives! That's how it happened.

I'm away from home at the moment, and my beloved dishwasher, so doing things by hand.

And yup, they're sharp! I should know better

So when online sites say 'get it looked at' if they don't heal/get a bit red, they're not overreacting then
 
Yup if it's pink the next day and you go to the walk-in centre or see a practice nurse at nearby surgery tell them that you have diabetes and they should be happy to look at it for you.
