Hello

Almost bought some ice cream last week, Franks diabetic stuff - just under 17 carbs per 100 grams. Then I thought, do a bit more research. Walls light ice cream, 11 carbs per 100 grams. Silly question, which is better?

What is a low carb per 100 grams for a pre-diabetic ? i am aware you need to look at fats, salt/etc but would like to know what is low carb:

Bread (possiblry Burgens the one i eat)

Chocolate

Sweets

Biscuits

ice cream

Custard

Heniz beans 9will look at the tin soon)

Larger = Phils can od 400mm

Deli meats, eg ready cut turkey, hams, beef that are usually processed for sanwiches.

all help appreciated

hi rt567

Not sure if there's an actual definition, i just go off my meter and common sense.

I wouldn't touch anything on your list until I reach Deli meats.

I have franks ice cream, a few spoon fuls sometimes with a sugar free jelly and double cream, no spikes at all and I think it tastes great. The difference in the ice creams is franks uses sweetener and the other real sugar, so it all depends on you and you tolerance. I can have a few scoops of real ice cream too and sometimes no spikes, but sometimes a little rise

Thanks

I have accepted the fact that we are all different, therefore, eat sensibly, in moderation, and get myself a blood test meter and see what is good for me and what is not. I will wait until i re-visit gp in a couple of weeks time as i think I'm pre-diabetic, possibly - though I have lost over one and hald stones and now just over 11st, did this by cutting back on bread, mash, chips, crisps and cakes, - cakes rarely touch and crisps once a week - need to cut down on the alcoholic drink on the weekends

Hi RT,

I have pretty much cut out stuff in your list apart from deli meats as Mary said. Personally I have found it easier to mostly by pass these things all together rather than trying to control my BGs to counteract the effect of them. Now that I have broken the habit I don't find it too hard to resist, if they were still in my diet I would be fighting my will power everyday. I'm lucky I guess I like my new LCHF diet very much, and I am not finding it too hard to stick to. Like you my weakness is alcohol, but now I am back from hols I am taking a month off the booze to try and break that comforting habit too.
