Dental disease and diabetes

I have always brushed my teeth well, but at the age of 16, had my first filling. Over the next 20 years I had many clear dental visits, but about a dozen invasive procedures, mostly fillings. Then I got diabetes and substantially reduced my carb intake. Over the following 20 years I have not had a single invasive dental procedure. Has anyone else noticed anything similar? Has diabetes improved or worsened your dental health?

Diabetes shouldn't affect dental health providing that your BG control is good.

You're more likely to get conditions like gum disease if your overall control is poor, but being a diabetic by default shouldn't have an impact.

Whatever you're doing, you're doing it right:)

According to my dentist diabetes should not affect your teeth and as the above poster has said it can however affect your gums.....hate the dentist at best of times 6 monthly visits is enough for me arghhhh

We've been told T1 has an impact because of the sweet hypo treatments :)

When you don't eat carbs there's nothing for the bacteria that cause decay to eat so risks to teeth are much less
