Type of diabetes
Treatment type

I live in Kent and have been referred to a one day education course on Type 2 diabetes called DERIK, has anyone out there been on one? Want to know if they will be pushing the carb intake or the more up to date low carb regime which we are trying to follow.
 
Any idea what DERIK stands for?
 
Hi @KGP. I've not heard of DERIK but I did the DESMOND course. On my course, we were encouraged to cut carbs but not low carb

Looking at the picture on the leaflet , the large apple and the picture of feet in trainers I would guess it will be eatwell plus exercise as the holy grail...
 
I also looked at the huge apple and had a sinking feeling - but perhaps you could spread the work about the forum, and place a seed of doubt in the minds of the 'educators' by asking about reducing blood glucose and Hba1c to normal levels.
 
I have now been on the DERIK course and it was very good and informative and they didn't push the usual carbs portions they said you should limit them, read food labels and it was a very balanced view for food and medical issues. Would recommend.
