I have mine in a couple of weeks and I'm dreading it to be honest,
I wouldn't go but don't want anything saying I refused treatment on my records.
I know my nature and if I get similar advice and attitude from my specialists ( and I use the term lightly) I won't be able to hold my tongue.
So nope not really looking forward to it
I've just come back from the DESMOND course and I have learnt that:
I can have two Weetabix or Shredded Wheat for breakfast
Two slices of bread and half a tin of beans for lunch (try not to eat four slices or you won't lose weight)
Meat and mashed potatoes for tea
and two 100 calorie snacks in the day, ie: two finger KitKat and 1and a half squares of Turkish Delight
Also I don't need to test my blood because if I did and saw a high result I would panic....................................
WOW! and there's me going low carb high fat, losing 11lbs and making an effort to keep my blood sugar stable and as low as possible! I tried to put forward the LCHF and testing point of view but was quickly shouted down by the Diabetic Nurse, and it was a Dietician who suggested the above menu for Diabetes Type 2. I eat to my meter and find I cannot tolerate a lot of carbs before my blood glucose goes high, but what do I know?
I'm really shocked to be honest..........................there was 8 other people there, one said she doesn't even eat that much and has pre-diabetes, I think with these guidelines she will soon have diabetes!!
It is worth going as they explain in graphic detail how damaging to your system high blood glucose is........................................ironic though in that they say don't test and eat plenty of carbs! But I went as I didn't want my DN to moan that I hadn't attended something that was offered, especially as so little is offered. She also said I don't need to self test but after much pushing gave me a meter and 50 strips, my doctor says I am entitled to 50 strips every three monthswhich is ridiculous.

Well I've just been for mine and that just about hits the nail on the head.
I was quite amused when the tea and coffee and a great big plate of digestive biscuits came out at the break. I haven't had a biscuit since I was diagnosed
That said they took pains to answer the questions they were asked about. So not a total waste of time
