Is there any update on this new transmitter? Have heard rumours that they are available to some in the US but I didn't think were approved by the FDA. Is there any substance in these rumours?

New transmitter? do you mean with inbuilt memory? If so I think I've seen posts of people with it on fb in the uk
 
I think the inbuilt memory has been around since November, but there was talk of the G5x which was considerably smaller than even the G4
 
No, there's been nothing on the newswires other than Apple supporting the G5 on the Apple Watch.
