I have recently been diagnosed with depression and have always suffered with mental illness since the age of about 21 (I'm 28 now).

I normally have very good control over my Type 1 diabetes, having had it since I was 18 months old, and always achieve HbA1cs of 7 or less.

However, since I was diagnosed with depression I seem to need an awful lot of insulin to stay under control and have woken up very very high for quite a few mornings now. Last night I was 13 before I ate my evening meal, had a few pieces of calamari, a salad for main and two glasses of wine. I had 12 units of insulin and when I got home I was still 13 mm/oL. I had my usual 12 units of Lantus before bed but when I woke up I was 27!

Usually for that type of meal I would only need around 7/8, certainly nothing above 10.

Something similar also happened on Friday night when I barely ate any of the rice with my evening meal, but again went to bed around 12 and woke up in my mid-20s.

Has anyone ever suffered with this in the past, is this normal?

Thanks.
