I've noticed more water retention with more insulin. You?Taken a fair amount of Solpadeine (my pain killer of choice) to ease the aches and pains so at present I'm feeling halfway human. It may even last for a while.
Just received word of surgery appointment to take away half my thyroid (parathyroid is the problem but it's growing into my thyroid so both have to come out) That gives me about 3 weeks to get over this bug - should be OK. I certainly don't want to go back to the end of the list again. There's probably a connection with all these things - diabetes, insulin resistance, liver problems, overweight, fluid retention, parathyroid hyperactivity etc. We shall see by the end of September, no doubt.

I believe Annb had to reduce insulin starting artichoke extract. I did too. Then we both got. Avorus and as we know it throws everything up in the air. I need double my insulin or more at this point but still in sick mode.I've noticed more water retention with more insulin. You?
Have you given 20units 3times a day from 12? That is a big jump. Have you kept this change up for 3 days without a hypo?
If so you need to do strict monitoring if you increase again via your dn's instructions.
Keep me updated please. All your changes, especially these huge ones should be supervised by your dn. If she/he doesnt know pls inform them.
Hopefully they will give you some solid advice for going forward.
I am afraid that your info is incorrect: http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/fatty-liver-disease/Pages/Introduction.aspx They are different stages of the same condition. I hope your brother is healthy again soon.I've read some of the replies here. I just want to point out that cirrhosis and fatty liver are 2 entirely different things. My brother has autoimmune caused liver disease, cirrhosis. He sees liver specialists and may be on a transplant list. Liver diseases, or liver cirrhosis, is different from fatty liver. Take care everyone.

Trail and error. Such as it is...
Well you had great readings with the avo before you got sick and almost more important you weren't hungry! At least I'm lower than the 15+ reading of a few days ago - benefit of the artichoke? I don't know but I'm not aware of any contra-indications yet, so I'll keep going with it (and the avocados).

We both had good results with artichoke before we got sick as well. Guess we won't truly know until after we're over this but I have a feeling both worked.
If it makes you feel any better I'm taking TWICE my insulin to keep levels downISH, NOT where I usually am.
Feel better soon!!
Sounds like my kind of day but your bs is MUCH better than mine. Finally went to the doc and as I suspected it's viral bronchitis but she did give me an albuterol breathing treatment and prescribed an inhaler. The last 4 nights I coughed non stop fro 9 pm until 4 am. Talk about exhausting. She also told me to get mucinex. I'm sure my bs will LOVE that!!Very poorly today. Started well at 7.30 with a reading of 5.8 but felt very bad and took Solpadeine which made me feel worse. At 11.30 reading was 7.7. Had an avocado but was still hungry so I had some of last night's left over spicy cauliflower. Felt even worse but stopped feeling hungry because I've had serious indigestion and nausea ever since. Have only had a cup of tea since and will probably go without until tomorrow morning now. Maybe some more tea. When I'm feeling like this, solpadeine just makes me feel worse. A little sip of soda water usually sorts out my stomach but not for more than a few minutes. Just a bad day.
I did weigh myself today and seem to have lost 4 or 5 pounds - that's something at least.
Get better soon.

Yes meds make me sick to my stomach. If it's indigestion you're feeling 1/4 tsp baking soda in 3 oz water and drink. Really knocks it out within minutes. Life saver.
The only thing I can stomach today is avo slices on a piece of lettuce with egg salad / mayo and broth. So not like me!!! Oh and a few macadamias. It's like I can't even think about food then I'm starving haha. Viscous circle.
I agree seltzer only works for a few minutes. Try the baking soda. You should soon burp. And burp. And burp. And then the throats feels better
Hope you feel better too.
Sounds like a horrible day and a great day to go to bed and sleep it off!!! I wish you better tomorrows. Sounds like it can only go up.Didn't eat anything today until about 8 pm. I would have done but we had an emergency with my husband's gastric tube falling out. It'd quite serious because the hole heals over in about half an hour and then it's a matter of more surgery to get it back in again. This was a new tube as well - only put in yesterday - so I'm assuming that the nurse did it wrong! So the day was a bit upset. Breakfast didn't happen - apart from a cup of tea. Lunch was non existent but I was given a cup of tea and a couple of biscuits, which I figured I'd better eat. Surgery done and I finally got home at 6.30 pm to find all sorts to clear up - including my car breaking down while my daughter-in-law was driving it (suspension or something) so that's another garage bill. My other son brought me home and told me "by the way, we got a puncture in the wheelbarrow tyre" - he and a workman are doing some work outside our house, so work stopped until we get that tyre repaired. He also reckons we'll need an extra wheelbarrow for all the work to be done. It's been a fine day!
At least my BS stayed at a reasonable level all day, without insulin or food - 7.2 - 7.8.
The soda water we have is home made, so it is bicarb plus carbonated water (would that make it tricarb?) One of the problems with Solpadeine is that it contains bicarb (to make it effervesce) as well as a couple of artificial sugars which I know make me ill. It is the best of a bad bunch of choices though.
Well - the day is nearly over and let's hope for a better one tomorrow - shan't hold my breath though!

I'm not sure of the bicarbonate you're talking about. Is it sodium bicarbonate? Maybe mixed with soda water it too something???
I just know the 1/4 tsp baking soda in water is. A lifesaver if I have indigestion. Actually I digestion can be from low or high stomach acid. Maybe your having too much of it??
Sleep well and better tomorrows.
I have to be honest with you, I loathe avocados, is there anything I can put it in to disguise the flavour?Well you had great readings with the avo before you got sick and almost more important you weren't hungry!

There are many variations on chocolate avocado mousse. I've also seen a choc brownie recipe that uses avocado. Chocolate disguises a multitude of thingsI have to be honest with you, I loathe avocados, is there anything I can put it in to disguise the flavour?
The bicarb I'm talking about is, as you say, baking soda. That's what we make soda water with - much better than the stuff in plastic bottles that you get from the supermarket. Too much is probably not particularly good because it is a salt and liable to raise blood pressure. My son, who has Crohns disease, finds it a lifesaver too.
I have to wait up for a bit to make sure my husband's overnight carers know what is happening. They probably do and won't turn up at all but nobody is answering their phones today so I have to wait up. I just woke from a nap though, sitting on a hard wooden kitchen chair at the kitchen table. I was out for the count for something like an hour, but I'll still sleep tonight.
Goodnight. Tomorrow will take care of itself.
