Hi everybody I have type 1 diabetes and I am currently on an insulin pump. My hba 1c was 8.6% when I first attended pre-conception clinic and with a massive amount of effort I managed to get it down to 6.8%. I am aware that guidelines suggest that for pregnancy it is ideal to have your hba1c below 6.1% but when I was at 7.2% it was advised that I should start trying for a baby after weighing up all the different factors (age, stress to myself, the improvement in hba1c). I have been taking folic acid for a long time (poss 6 months), I continue to get tighter control of my blood, i have done everything by the book. I fell pregnant straight away and felt like I had won the lottery! Very sadly, I have been informed that my baby has died. I am absolutely devastated. I know that nobody can say exactly why these things happen but I just wondered if anybody has an idea on whether this could have been caused by my diabetes? I am not blaming myself but i do want to make sure everything is as it should be before I try again. I cannot go through this again and I want to make sure I do everything I possibly can do to try and have a healthy baby. This is my second miscarriage (first was a long time ago and diabetes was very out of control at the time). Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. x
