I am a type 2 (12 years) diabetic who has also had breast cancer, 2 DVT's and 2 PE's, 2ops on neck, take warfarin, anti depressants for clinical depression and am on insulin.. I have many symptoms now including spots, thrush, cramps, difficulty getting out of a chair, tremor in thumb, depression, anxiety and agitation, insomnia etc, etc. the list goes on and on. Gp can only deal with 2 symptoms at a time. Problems now have included lack of motivation in managing diabetes, not being aware of how to manage, high bg readings as well as having frequent hypos and no correlated programme to ascertain what is cause and effect in relation to diabetes. Is there any hope for me. I'm 64!!!

Yes, you have managed being diabetic for 12 years, you have fought and won agains cancer. That's huge, so DVT didn't have a chance with such a fighter.
Rather than go to GP, got in touch with DN or consultant, you need counselling as well, maybe get on touch with McMillan nurses just for a chat, take a look for clubs or organisations that can help with motivation.
Also maybe look at less conventional methods, for ailments, like having reiki treatment or some other holistic practice.

Listen but I' m about to shout, YOU ARE A WORTHWHILE PERSON, YOU ARE STRONG, YOU ARE A SURVIVOR, NOTHING, WILL BEAT YOU DOWN .

64 is the new 54 you are a lot stronger than even you know.

Look up and research Candida you may have this and doctors miss it. A lot of your symptoms tick the Candida box. Lots of info on the internet and You tube about Candida. natrual Products available on Amazon (eg Total Candida Defence) to help if you think you may have this also big change of diet to combat it

Hi splodge,

It sounds as though you have more than your fair share of health related problems and no wonder your motivation is lapsing.

You need to see a Consultant, Endocrinologist, to help you manage your complex health needs whilst having diabetes. Your case is multi faceted and you deserve help and may need to be referred to other disciplines . I would think your G.P. is as bewildered as you about the best possible way forward. Remember he is general practitioner and does not specialise. Some anti-depressants play havoc with blood sugars as do other medications not related to diabetes.

Tell your G.P. how you are feeling and ask for a referral.

Hope this helps,
Take care,
CC.

Thank you Shar67 and Star47 for your replies and helpful comments. I am trying to take the diet things on board. This week Ive also been diagnosed with ME/CFS so it explains a lot of things as well. Thank you again. I'll keep plodding onwards and upwards!!!!!

Please look up Candida at least to eliminate it as a possibility, it causes all sorts of problems if left unchecked to grow inside our systems various things can set it off like a poor diet over the years, too much sugar and processed foods, over weight, antibiotics, some of your symptoms you describe are associated/caused by Candida it can go undetected for a long time showing up as symptoms like yours including ME. Quote from book on diet re Candida I have: Candida is known to release around 80 poisons in it's proliferation process making us feel generally very unwell yet without being able to put our finger on it. This weakens our immune system and as we grow weaker the Candida grows stronger. It has now been found behind virtually every case of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Post viral fatigue, there is candida overgrowth, in fact every time you go to the docs and they can't find a common cause for your problem they say its an infection, a viral infection - yet what it most likely is is Candidiasis which sadly most of the medical profession do not recognize...end of quote.

Candida causes thrush in the mouth, on the skin and down below, foggy head, depression, lethargy list goes on. If it crosses over into your blood stream via your intestines, this is when you get the things I have mentioned. The book I mention is written by a lady who in her 40's had wide variety of symptoms terrible pains in joints, shortness of breath, various rashes, sores, itches, psoriasis, recurrent bouts of thrush and athletes foot and weight ballooned, she wrote a diet book to help beat the problem, you need to stay away from yeast, sugar and all dairy for a start, take probiotics etc.

I appreciate you are going through a very difficult time and stressful and it is sometimes hard to look these things up when you feel so ill, I hope you start to feel better soon
