Diabetes and pregnant, advice wanted!

Hi all

So I'm type 1 and 7 weeks pregnant on Wednesday very very excited but also very nervous and wanting to do the right thing to make sure butterbean is as happy as can be. I've seen my DSN who has advised I need very tight control but I'm finding my insulin requirements have gone through the roof so I'm struggling with my post meal readings and am also finding its peaking in the night so I'm up and testing every two hours (preparing for sleepless nights early, haha). If any of you lovely people on here have any experience or advice for me I would really appreciate it

Your BS can fluctuate quite a bit throughout pregnancy, but try not to worry too much, get anxious or stressed, as this will not help levels. I had my daughter 15 years ago and I was aged 42 1/2.
Enjoy your pregnancy and keep checking on your BS more. Any problems or concerns, have a word with your DSN, also there is other support and help on the internet too.

Your dsn might suggest taking your insulin a bit before your meal prevent the peak after, but check with her.

Are you on injections or the pump?

I'm moving your thread to the Pregnancy section for you where, as mentioned above, you'll find lots of interesting reading and help and advice

I second the advice to consider injecting more in advance to stop the post-meal spikes. My other tips are to test lots (yes, including the night : D ) and to correct when needed (if you're confident doing so).
 
Congratulations!! I am currently trying to conceive and doing lots of research into pregnancy whilst diabetic. I came across this lady's YouTube channel about having diabetes and being pregnant! Not sure if it will help you but she does a new video each week outlining pregnancy related issues and then diabetes whilst pregnant related issues!

 
Hi @Beckie2014 congratulations my insulin requirements were like yours then took a swift dive the other way and have continued to change, it's a case of constant testing & correcting (sadly yes through the night too) lol the tips on injecting a bit earlier before your food are defo worth trying out too, keep us posted with how you get on X
 
Hi @Beckie2014 have you tried a low GI diet? Are you eating much before bed?
Yep defo twice a night testing worked for me and being on a pump as suffered terribly with dawn phenomenon. I used to test half hour after meals to make sure I was on track and give a correction if necessary. x
 
Wow! Thanks so much for all your replies, it's made me feel much better that others have had the same hiccups that I'm having haha! I'm just about to have dinner so have injected a good 25 minutes before so will keep you posted how I get on I'm going to check the YouTube channel out too, the more info the better xx
