I just can't imagine how, after all the adverse publicity in the media of late, any one could be unaware of diabetes even if they believe all the nonsense they have been fed and are still ignorant of the true facts.
Perfectly put @BeccyBThat's exactly why we need to get our own message out there - not so much making people aware of diabetes but making them aware of what diabetes actually is.
I know it's only a small drip in a huge pool but I always like & share relevant posts on facebook, and for this month I have changed my profile picture and cover photo to stuff about diabetes too. I know it's made some of my friends ask more about the condition in the past. I've used the JDRF link in the blog by @Type1Bri (at the start of this thread) as a cover photo (they even have it sized correctly for you already)
I know a lot of us hate answering (often stupid!) questions from people about diabetes but it's important that we do our bit to educate people where we can (and where they are willing to accept what their friend's mother's brother heard on the bus isn't necessarily correct)
Your making the mistake of thinking people actually give a sh!t. Most people are so wrapped up in their own lives and what's going on with them they don't care about learning the ins and outs of anyone else's problems.
Life's tough enough, or so the attitude goes for many.
