Diabetes Awareness Month

I think the best article I saw on this topic was one which said "Remember, Diabetes Awareness month is not for Diabetics".

It's about educating and making aware all the Type 0s out there as to what it is, what the risk factors are and what the causes are. So the question is, how are we all raising the awareness of Diabetes in the general community, and what would we like to see the charities and media doing?

Well put Tim
I have put this out to many Type 0 friends and they are all sharing too, only a small thing but it all helps I hope

Hey guys,
I have a challenge for all of you!
(If you don't already) Try and get your school to participate in a "Blue Out"! Like in October, people wear pink, get your school to wear blue! If you can, let me know of send me a pic or something! I dare you!

Moved to keep all Diabetes Awareness topics in one place.

I just can't imagine how, after all the adverse publicity in the media of late, any one could be unaware of diabetes even if they believe all the nonsense they have been fed and are still ignorant of the true facts.

That's exactly why we need to get our own message out there - not so much making people aware of diabetes but making them aware of what diabetes actually is.

I know it's only a small drip in a huge pool but I always like & share relevant posts on facebook, and for this month I have changed my profile picture and cover photo to stuff about diabetes too. I know it's made some of my friends ask more about the condition in the past. I've used the JDRF link in the blog by @Type1Bri (at the start of this thread) as a cover photo (they even have it sized correctly for you already)

I know a lot of us hate answering (often stupid!) questions from people about diabetes but it's important that we do our bit to educate people where we can (and where they are willing to accept what their friend's mother's brother heard on the bus isn't necessarily correct :banghead:)

Perfectly put @BeccyB

Your making the mistake of thinking people actually give a sh!t. Most people are so wrapped up in their own lives and what's going on with them they don't care about learning the ins and outs of anyone else's problems.

Life's tough enough, or so the attitude goes for many.

Sad but true in many cases, but there are people who do listen and care. And really we don't need everyone to know all the details - even just getting across that it's not as simple as "eat some lettuce and go for a walk" is a good start

Ah so it's not diabetes awareness month it anti diabetes media propaganda month wish you luck with that. people for the most part will listen to the media because the media will re-enforce their prejudices and allow them to feel superior to all us blameworthy diabetics with self destructive life styles.

And yes I am a cynic in this respect.
