Diabetes Breakthrough

I Googled Liraglutide and judging by what's in the summary I read, it's less effective than a low carb diet and I bet it costs

Don't get your hopes up folks. Liraglutide is simply a new rival to Byetta. Byetta needs twice daily injections whereas liraglutide can be injected once a day. It has not yet been approved by the US (decision expected at the end of May) and it is likely to be another year at least before we see it in the UK.

It seems that when tested on lab animals it was able to trigger beta cell renewal, but NovoNordisk's trials on humans have not replicated this and they do not claim that it has any effect on human beta cell production.

As well as liraglutide there are several other new rivals to Byetta in the pipeline including a couple that require only a once a week injection. But apart from being longer lasting, they don't do anything that Byetta doesn't do.
