Hi all. I am 63 and female. I have been a Type 2 diabetic since 2000. Until about 6-7 years ago I was managing it well with diet control. HBA1C was just in the diabetic range (mid 40s) It started creeping up and I had other health issues, so I was put on Glucophage slow release 1 a day. This was changed to Metformin slow release 2 years ago. This did well for me HBA1C steady at 52, highs only got to 12-14 and that was only if I was ill with something else. In the New Year my HBA1C had jumped up to 60 which was a bit of a shock but understandable as I had battled with a chest infection for 2 months needing steroid treatment to finally conquer it. Metformin was increased to twice a day. Only really checked my BM if I felt ill.I
Sorry for long post but I will get to main concern. I had started passing out suddenly 2 years ago.and had a loop heart monitor to see if the heart was the problem. Lo and behold it it was. I got a call early February to say my heart had been stopping for 10-15 seconds at a time, and I urgently needed a Pacemaker. Okay put in middle February, a bit uncomfortable but I can deal with that. Didn't think about diabetes just kept taking the tabletd.
Fast forward to early hours of Monday about 1am, I woke with my usual night-time sweats and needing to wee, normal for me. What was not normal was feeling as though something didn't feel right. Just vague feeling and some balance and blurred vision problem. Thought it might have been pacemaker, but then thought I would check my BM. I had a bell of a fright, BM was 21.6. Drank plenty of water and did some exercises.Checked it through out the night and early morning and it never went below 20. Three days later it is still in.low 20s, not able to get it down. I've seen the GP and diabetes nurse at.my surgery, no ketones in urine just glucose. Sample sent off for testing to see if I have an infection I should get the results later today.
Has anyone else developed this problem after a surgery especially pacemaker insertion? Also has anyone ideas as to what I can do?
Thanks in anticipation of your help
Annie
