The Accelerator programme aims to speed up the development of innovative digital health projects and support scaling these out via the NHS. A selection of carefully chosen start-ups and small and medium enterprises are picked each year. DDM has been recognised as being highly beneficial for people with and at risk of diabetes. In being selected, DDM will be supported to meet health challenges facing the NHS in London and afar. DDM is well placed, having developed the Low Carb Program, a leading digital education resource that has enabled thousands of people to gain strong control of their blood glucose, with many people reducing their medication requirements and achieving remission of type 2 diabetes. The Accelerator connects world-class research, medical technology and resources. The programme provides benefits for both the NHS and DDM, as expertise from both organisations can be pooled and innovative digital solutions can be tested at an early stage. DDM, a leader in online behaviour change solutions, has been empowering people with and at risk of diabetes for many years with over 1.3 million members using a DDM service. As part of the Accelerator, DDM will be able to empower a greater number of people to better manage their own health and well-being. Charlotte Summers, founding Chief Operations Officer of DDM said: "We are excited to be accepted by the DigitalHealth.London Accelerator, which will allow more people to gain benefit from our innovative digital health programs." Sara Nelson Programme Director, DigitalHealth.London Accelerator, said: "This year, we received a record number of applications to the DigitalHealth.London Accelerator, and are delighted to accept 20 companies, including Diabetes Digital Media, onto the programme. "Between them, they have great potential to make a huge difference to the lives of patients and staff – either directly, or indirectly, through improvements to the way the system runs behind-the-scenes. These innovations could help the NHS draw ever closer to delivering a truly digital, inclusive service for everyone." The Accelerator project is supported by the Mayor of London and part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. This is part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme for 2014-2020.
