Diabetes getting too much

Hi, I have been type 1 diabetic for 5 years now since I was 10 years old and I am really struggling to cope with it. I feel that no matter how hard I try to keep my blood sugars under control, it never works!! When I go for my HbA1c results every three months, the doctors seem to expect me to be in the non-diabetic range for my blood sugars when it is almost impossible for me to do that as I obviously cannot control my blood sugars as well as a non-diabetic. Another thing is that I travel at least 24 miles to and from school each day and I would rather run my blood sugars higher (around 11.0- 8.0) for travelling as I am so terrified of having a hypo, stuck on a bus when no one else knows about your diabetes and they still say that you need to have you blood sugars at around 5.0 constantly, regardless of where you are and what you are doing! If that wasn't bad enough, I'm currently doing my GCSEs and the pressure and stress of that is making my bloods run haywire.

I am SICK AND TIRED of putting up with an annoying and a pointless disease that rudely invaded and interrupted my life!

Hello.. What are your HbA1c results coming in at..?

Hi, also called the 'diabetes burnout'. I have read so many posts regarding the younger ones who are finding it difficult, frustrating and so downhearted. Try not to let diabetes be a burden and try to look on it as just a small part of you, it can be controlled, so don't let diabetes control you, as you are the boss and the big D need a big swift lick up the backside from time to time. I think a lot of us have been in that place at some point in time, so you are definitely not alone.

Take care and sending lots of good wishes your way

All the best for a positive future and a not so rocky road to walk on.

I think DIABETES SUCKS and 15yrs is hormones all over the place, so last week may not work for this week.

I'd give the care line a ring tomorrow, I'm sure they will be able to help with the bus ride for ideas..there would be lots of kids over the UK in your position. they are also good for anytime you just need a chat too

just a heads up that a lot of T1's have a more stable BG and weight through low carb/reduced carb meal plans.

Poor you, it's not fun to be living this way, you need to push your team for some support here. My first piece of advice is to ask your team how you are supposed to achieve the results they are expecting of you,

I appreciate you are sick and tired of this but whilst you are running higher you are not going to feel great as your high bg will be slowing you down making you feel tired, if you can give us some pointers as to what your levels are like during the day and what you are eating then hopefully we can help ?

Plus remember you will not always feel like this, it is temporary, with better control you will feel better mentally

I had a similar problem when taking my GCSEs a few years back where i couldnt keep my levels stable not matter how hard i tried, several lows followed by stupidly high results. This lead to me having a hypo during an exam, things only got worse that day as I raised my hand to explain to an invigilator that i need to leave so i could get my levels back under control for her to say no! 20 minutes later I was still sat in there feel my sugars going stupidly low and knowing there was an hour of the exam left, i got up and walked out and because my school had not informed everyone i was diabetic i wasnt allowed to return. Sorry for rambling but my main point here is if you're struggling to control your levels please make sure everyone in the school knows so it doesnt put you at a disadvantage with your studies! As for the controlling of the sugars long term, keep at it! Everyone has up and downs! Im 20 been diabetic for just about 7 years my blood sugars still arent perfect but everytime i see my team they give me pointers and explain im not the only one who sometimes struggles, we are not alone! Good luck with it all and the GCSEs
