Thanks Sid BonkersHeres the link for anyone who wants it http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/lose-weight.75448/#post-833999
Congratulations, I too lost 5 stone (70lb) and managed to come off insulin and have maintained that weight loss and had HbA1c's in the mid 5's for the last 6 years now.
Keep up the good work.
Saw my doctor this morning and was told that I had basically reversed my type 2 diabetes and that now I would no longer be classed as diabetic.
The surgery will still require to check my blood glucose levels every six months or yearly.
Advised to still stick to the diet and the exercise class and to keep up the good work.
Since start of October last year, I have lowered my weight from 17st 13lbs to 14st 1lb., my BMI dropped from 33 to 26,now average weekly blood glucose 5.3, three monthly reading 5.6, HbA1c 38, and blood pressure 129 / 75.
Hello Yorkshire_Ian. And a belated Welcome to the Forum. I was told to loose about 3 - 4lbs a week by the Diabetic Nurse. My aim is to get down to 11 and a half to 12 stone, but went a bit off the rails over Christmas and New Year. Have just ordered Carbs and Calories book to get myself motivated and thinking about an exercise bike.
Yes I feel so much healthier. But the biggest thrill for me was being able to buy clothes in a store instead of online.Hi last place. What a difference in the photos! Well DoneBet you are so pleased with yoursel
@lastplace Great photos. Are you a diabetic in remission now?View attachment 17314 View attachment 17315 Photos before and after. I agree with Liam. I was so big I started walking because at the time that was all I could do. I played golf but struggled to walk so I used to use a buggy to get around the golf course. A slow progress but I stuck at it. I then moved up to speed walking. Now I ride my bike and use weights to train. So if I can do it anyone can. Never give up, and never listen to people who say you cant do it. You can!! Good luck to you all.

Personally I lost 60 lbs and now 8 lbs have crept back on, so only 52 lbs off. Yet I don't miss a night of training over at the local gym or 20mile ride on my bike. The Avatar actually shows where I ride a coastal route now that is minimum 10 miles each way. I get to stop at a Starbucks and have coffee. Its 950 Kcal workout (per mapmyride) & even though I've leaned up a great deal and now do German Volume Training (GVT) frequently I'm still coming up with diabetic numbers with my FBGs..However Professor Taylor says keep up with "Plenty of the E" as in "exercise".. I know I am doing plenty of "E"
Hi
Yes I'm in remission. I have a check up once a year which is normal. My doctor as told me I have reversed diabetes. I train at home and ride my bike. I try to ride 100 miles a week and train at least 5 hours a week. When I was diabetic I wore glasses but I don't need them now. I found a way to keep my weight down, and lose body fat,so I incorporate that into my training programme.
I'm a stubborn person so when someone tells me I cant do something I prove them wrong. Which helped me fight diabetes.
It's all about your state of mind. You either want to work and train towards your goal or you don't. You can tell people want to do, but you can't make them do it.
I will keep on my path and yes I feel so much healthier and fitter. I also must add when I started my programme I was 49 years old I'm now 53 so it doesn't matter what age you are, just go for it.
Stay healthy everyone.
Did you send a mail to Roy Taylor, or did you meet him in person? It always seems that he responds if people email him@lastplace
Fantastic news. I am close now to remission but no cigar yet. (I don't smoke either, just a figure of speech.). I am getting very good control numbers and putting in some serious exercise everyday. I "Skirt" un-diabetic numbers ~ FBGs with low 104's etc but no nirvana yet. I've been putting in 40-60 miles a week on my road bike and GVT in the gym on alternate days. I am now 2 years into my programme but no promised-land yet. Professor Taylor looked at my numbers recently and basically said "Keep up the good work".
On a sad note when I was diagnosed 2 years ago I visited a friend who was (diabetic and,) 350lbs (give or take) in weight and needed help. I encouraged him to join me on my quest for better health. Alas he blew me off and didn't want to know anything about getting healthier. I will be attending his funeral this coming Saturday. He died just last week from (I suspect) diabetic complications. I have felt bad about his death, since I almost visualized it in the last 6-8 months. It doesn't help as his wife is diabetic too. I hope that now maybe his wife can have a moment of clarity going forward. I hope no one now jumps down my throat for telling this story. There are many people on this forum that have jumped down my throat for feeling the way I have. My diabetic friend left a wife and two young children behind. NB Note to Moderator. If you feel the above paragraph is inappropriate please delete it. I do not wish to offend anyone's feelings.
And as @lastplace has said . "Stay healthy everyone"!
