Diabetes nurse wants to see me.

Hi guys.
This is my first post here. I was diagnosed type 2 in December and prescribed metformin. I have just had a check up with the nurse to check my bloods, weight feet and measurements. This was my first contact since being diagnosed. I have lost 4 stone and 6 inches since January 3rd and the nurse was very happy with that. However she said that if my bloods are OK the diabetic nurse wouldn't need to see me and to carry on with what I am doing. This morning I had a letter asking me to go and see the diabetic nurse and am a bit worried why. I have never been shown how to test my levels so I don't know if my sugar levels are ok or not. I'm probably worrying about nothing but I suppose I'm looking for a bit of reassurance. Thanks in advance...

Hi @Ventura_3670 ,

Welcome to the forums.

If your doc has a computerised patient database, then once you're logged as a diabetic, you may well find that the system pumps out appointments for checkups at regular intervals.

I wouldn't worry, these things are often just routine, have a chat, measure your weight and height, calculate your BMI etc. They'll check if you have any issues that require referral to a specialist.

It's a good thing - relax.

Thanks for your reply. The first appointment I had was like you say a computerised check up. What concerned me was the nurse said if my bloods are ok I wouldn't need to come back to see the diabetic nurse. I then get an appointment to go and see her. Just a bit worried that there is something wrong. Cheers.
