I've decided I really dont like my sons diabetic nurse she is away with the fairies!!!!

You could always ask to see another DSN in the clinic or ask for an appointment with the Diabetes Consultant instead, what is the reason for thinking she is ''away with the fairies''?

If she is like most others we hear about, I think we know the answer all ready.

Well assuming Saffie's son is still a child as she was present at the appointment to form that opinion, what you'll find Defren is that a DN that type 2's see in GP clinics are not as experienced as those who type 1's see in a hospital clinic setting (DSN)......... so you were a bit too quick to jump to that conclusion

Ahhh but, you see I said think we know the answer, not that we do. Perhaps you were a little to quick to jump on my post

Well rather than make assumptions in future it might be more helpful to ask the OP what the problem is or offer words of advice....as I did in my reply

Now your just playing semantics

I am a Type 1 (since 1974) and I see a DN at my GP's and she is GREAT!!!

Must be lucky my one is really nice, supportive and listens to what I'm saying.

Its a pity that the NHS can not have the same standard of care for all Diabetics. My nurse is great always helpful. But I have read some real horror stories. I know, not everyone is the same, but the care should be equal.

I get really annoyed by obese nurses telling me what I should eat. When challenged most of them don't know enough to be able to come back with real good reasons WHY people with diabetes should stuff carbs. What I call the low fat mantra seems to have brainwashed much of the medical and nursing professsions. Before oral medications the first line treatment for T2DM was a no sugar no starch low carb diet.

After being bullied by a couple of nurses and patronised by a DSN to the point where I was in tears, I went to my GP (really nice, smart and clued up on recent studies) told him what had happened, promised not to bother him un-necessarily and asked him to do my diabetes care and luckily he agreed. I feel really lucky now that I can actually marshal an argument and say this is what I'm doing and why/want to try, what do you think - and feel really involved in my own healthcare. It's really not done enough IMO.

Sadly Artichoke, a familiar problem. I think you've done the right thing in taking charge of your own treatment. I've done much the same. My nurse is lovely, very sweet, but hopeless, but at least handy in giving me tests whenever I ask for them and generally arranging things. I just have to put up with her sometimes bizarre advice, smile sweetly and nod.

Am type 1 and my diabetic nurse is very patronising when you have a problem what ever you did at the time must have been the wrong thing and then she will come up with another way it should have been done. It really get on my nerves I like her as a person she is friendly but it's just when she gets onto me for what I do with my diabetes. My diabetes on paper is great but I don't think enough is said about what you do well when you attend the clinics it all what you must have done wrong. Very frustrating i am only human!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Artichoke I know what you mean about the constant pressure put on us about weight gain. I had a doctor give me a lecture on why I was fat he must not have looked in the mirror that morning as his butt was that big it hung over the sides of the seat which unfortunately I rudely pointed out to him. Got a stroppy consultant letter from him which included my insult. Wouldn't advise repeating my actions but did feel better.
