I have recently found a pretty good piece of software called Diabetes Pilot which you can use to record everthing such as glucose readings, meals, medication, exercise, bp.
It has a food database which you can build yourself to suit the foods you eat, it can calculate insulin needed, will tell you whether your readings are too high or too low (you can set your own calculations)and can calculate your HBA1C
It also has a pretty good reporting system.
I have got the desktop version and one for my PDA (which I take everywhere I go) and I have found it invaluable since I started carbohydrate counting.

The pocket PC version costs around £15 and the desktop version costs around £20.
You can also download a 15 day trial version

I would be interested to hear from anyone else who uses it

That sounds really good mandarin thanks;)
I am still a learner driver just now and myself trying to get to grips with the whole thing in a nutshell,my readings are ski wiff just now and i have one of those one touch ultra smart meters with the software that i ordered with the usb cable, it looks really good but ive yet to find the units of insulin that suits me best, any advice on carb counting though would be greatly appreciated!

It looks really good and i will definatly have a look into it, thanks m8
you take care

Ive been using it for about 6 months now and feel lost without it. it has made it so easy for me to keep track of where I am (although I still have a lot to learn)
I have built up a database of all the food I eat and have created meals so that selecting what I am eating is easy and gives me an instant insulin calculation. I take 1.5 units for every 10g carbs - on advice from my dietician.
I have not yet done the carb counting course but get some advice form my dietician every 6 months or so, so I am not the best person to give advice.
Good luck with the software if you try it out and if you need any help with it just ask.

Hi Mandarin,

This software sounds like it could be really useful, but one thing to be aware of - it cannot measure your HBA1C. HBA1C is short for glycosylated haemoglobin molecule and there is no glucose monitor available that can measure this. It needs specialist equipment to measure it. What the Diabetes Pilot seems to be doing is to give an average of your glucose test readings, but this will only be as accurate as the number of times you test.

It does state that it is estimated but it has been a good guidline for me and not far off the last result I had. It said 6.5 and my actual result was 6.4.
I input the information every single time I eat or test so it is as accurate as the info i give it.
