Diabetes: Suitable Foods for Diabetics

  • All poultry: chicken (with the skin on), goose, duck, turkey, etc. But be aware that turkey is very low in fat, so fat needs to be added.

Hmmm i wonder if that means when we have one of those Bernard Matthews turkey rolls i can have some roast spuds with it ?

  • All animal and meat fats – without restriction – never cut the fat off meat.
Now i always cut as much of the fat off bacon as i can as i dont like bacon fat.

  • Fish and seafood of all types Oh goodie does that mean i can still munch on such as prawns and muscles and king prawns as a treat once in a while.
  • All cheeses (except cottage cheese as this has a high carb content and very little fat)
Is that bye bye cheese cake cos that is made with cottage cheese.

  • butter and cream (put butter on cooked veges instead of gravy; use cream in hot drinks in place of milk)

Thats deffo not good even with that hi lo bread id not wanna eat it dry.

Going by this guide there aint a right lot left that i can eat :(

  • Eggs (no limit, but avoid "omega-3 eggs" as these have been artificially fed which upsets the natural fatty acid profile)

Whats Omega 3 eggs ?

What isnt ?
The one you linked to,

Rye, barley, basmati rice, beans, milk low-fat yogurts low fat cottage cheese, still on my list.

I normally cut the fat off meat, I eat limited eggs, limited cheeses, little butter and cream.
I use gravy on cooked veges, milk in coffee, eat low,-fat yogurt

That's me though.

Can you also tell the new guys that you are taking 2 types of diabetic drugs to do it. You are hardly a diet controled diabetic

Hmmm does that mean canderel is out of the window.ive never heard of Stevia before
It will be easier when you have your meter.. You eat a diet you are happy with. If your BG is within range .. It's all good
If not you cut carbs or take meds or do both. Your BG meter will tell you what's going on

Yay! @douglas99 has posted. This is what I mean! Different diets to choose from! If I'm right @jack412 eats LCHF. Now I don't care for bacon fat either. So I don't buy stuff with much fat on. I love cheese and nuts. Good sources of fat. I like plain yoghurt with berries. And dark choc though 70% (2 squares every day) , choc mug cake (once a week) and home made ice ream (once a week) , 2-3 glasses of wine at week ends. Like full fat sauces with chicken or fish. Hubbie eats red meat instead. Lots if eggs. Cheese cake is in as you make it with trubia and cream cheese and eggs. Crushed nuts for base. By all means have normal cheese cake but only once every couple of weeks. Check out the thread what have you eaten today.

I do put a little bit of butter on the veg but could never have it instead of gravy...I am a real gravy addict like my dinner swimming in it.

On the subject of cheesecake............

....it is the added sugar plus the carbs and sugar in the biscuit crumb base which are likely to get you.
The cottage cheese is a minor issue.

However full fat cheese cake swimming in double cream is probably better than a stack of white toast swimming in margarine.

Eat to your meter :-)
