Getting old and everything that goes with it. All the repeats on TV. The drongos who ring me up to sell me things. Religious havens for pedophiles and war-mongers.
G'day All,
I am Forge in here but my pen name is Mango Chutney and this is the start of a piece I am writing.

I write with a "writers licence" and it is not a medical treatise but it is, hopefully, informative with enough detail left out to make it easy to read and understand.

Please feel free to comment but please ask if you want to re-use it somewhere else.

DRAFT

Diabetes T2 (DT2)
by Mango Chutney
A journey that takes a lifetime

DT2 is about how to come to terms with being diagnosed diabetic type 2 and then how to deal with it to make the best of your life ahead.

Diabetes T2, for us, is just one more thing we have to deal with as we age and our personal choices of how we deal with it will vary our quality of life.

· Choose happy not miserable

· Choose active not couch potato

· Choose interesting not boring

Remember

a) As a DT2 we can only get out of life what we put in.

b) Non diabetics do not understand, even when you tell them

From diagnoses week one, as a DT2, life has changed and it will never be the same again.

Life can be better if we do 3 things

1. Look for the fun option in everything we do.

2. Do not do mindless exercise – seek company or play games or sport instead

3. Learn to cook – become an obsessive inventive cook

It is as easy as 1, 2, 3

Later on we will discuss DT2 issues and social situations and diet choices and exercise options.

Authors Note.

I am 71 years old DT2 diagnosed more than 15 years I have been from diet and exercise, to tablets, then mixed jab insulin, then fast and slow jab insulin, then diet and tablets.

You could say I have done a U turn. But more about that later

The Trains are Waiting at the Station

Let’s say you are at Diabetes Central and you have just been diagnosed, and you want to know which train to catch.

It is an odd comparison, but we should make the serious business of diabetes as much fun as possible.

Platform #1

The train on platform #1 will take you to diet and exercise to delay the onset of diabetes Type 2 .

Platform #2

The train on platform #2 will take you to diet and exercise and tablets to maintain good blood sugar levels with diabetes Type 2 hence good general health

Platform#3

The train on platform #3 will take you to diet and exercise and insulin injections to maintain above normal but acceptable blood sugar levels with diabetes Type 2 hence good general health.

Platform #4

The train on platform #4 goes to the hospital and the morgue with stops at digit and limb amputations, blindness, kidney and organ failure.

Habits of a Lifetime

We all have habits and we have likes and dislikes and up till now it has all worked out fine but after diagnoses things must change or you will be catching the train on Platform #4.

So it is pretty much which train you catch and where you end up.

Let’s say that you do not want to catch the train on Platform #4 but the next question is what changes to your life and habits are you prepared to make.

If you are not prepared to make any changes to your likes and dislikes and habits of a lifetime then you will be leaving from Platform #4.

We have to manage our own diabetes (not cure it) and we cannot delegate it. It is up to each of us but I will see if I can make your diabetes journey of a lifetime more interesting and generally as light hearted as possible.

We will start with the recipe for a 3 minute chocolate cake.

Lo-carb three-minute chocolate cake. In a soup dish, mix together ¼ cup almond flour, one tablespoon cocoa, ¼ teaspoon baking powder, three tablespoons Splenda, two tablespoons melted butter, one tablespoon water, and one egg. Microwave on high for one to two minutes or until the cake looks set but still moist.

G'day all,
You may be interested in this article I have written which is a yarn not medical advice and while the subject is serious my approach has been light-hearted.

It is too long to post but I am happy to email it to you. My email is [email protected] or you can request it through the forum.
