Diabetes tablets(medication) or Insulin?

Hi,
I am Diabetic type 2, diagnosed in 2005. and ever since, on medication and Attempted dieting.
Not having great success in controlling the beast!
I was offered to go in insulin by my GP/nurse ,long time ago, but refused because I don't like injections and my late Mum had type 1 on insulin. She eventually passed away due to a hyper incident.

I have become , ever since, traumatised :-(

Anyway I was told, it is better to go on insulin, and avoid the tablets, because insulin is safer and tablets have various side effects.

What do you think?

Regards

However, may I ask what you have tried to change your diet?

Hi, thanks for your kind response. I was seeking to know members preference, or view( maybe from experience). Personally, I wouldn't call that advice. But, I realise there is a very fine line between seeking a different view and seeking advice that one actually follows ( as from doctor).
Regarding my dieting, yes I have. Most recently been trying to follow a lowcarb diet. It helps, but also results in weight loss ( I am 5"7 59.8 KG )! I am worried about a strict Lowcarb diet, in case it results in more weight loss, as you might appreciate.

Regards.

It should be possible to do low carb without losing weight - did you try eating more healthy fats?
I have butter on green veg, oily dressings on salads, full fat milk and yogurt, double cream on a few berries. I now eat the skin on roast chicken and occasionally I have bacon fried with mushrooms and half a tomato.
And a couple of squares of 85% chocolate in the evening.

@mkashani given you have struggled to manage your diabetes on tablets and your mother had Type 1, have you ever been tested for Type 1.
I am wondering if you have been misdiagnosed.
Yes, there is a risk of hypo (I assume meant this rather than hyper which is high blood sugar) but now that CGMs are more common with the likes of Libre and Dexcom, it is possible to be warned before our levels get too low.

You are right there. The issue for me is that I have heart condition. Had triple bypass and stent, due to troubled arteries! Hence my fear if I do have more fats, would that cause a blockage of arteries? That's why I've been avoiding things like mature full fat cheese, full fat milk and cream.

(When I was in hospital for my Heart Operation, a young man next to me was having same operation. So I asked him what he thought got him into this predicament. He said, mainly his love of cheese!)

So my point is , I would have more healthy fats if I wasn't blessed with heart condition!
However, will consult my GP and I am hoping to see a dietitian, and I guess I should increase my intake of healthy fats , Omega3 from fish, and vegetable protein and fats such as pulses, beans, olive oil.. etc. which as you know the basis of a Mediterranean diet.

Many thanks..

Good point, but ever since diagnosis, or soon after, I was put on maximum doses of medication( Gliclazide, Metformin, and Jardiance,..). At some point it was suggested that I could go on insulin ( as a type 2) , but I didn't agree. But at no point, even after numerous regular blood tests and reviews, it was suggested that I was Type1. So I just go along with this knowledge.
I did start using Libra free style2 sensor recently. Thanks.
