Hi
I find this site more informative and helpful. I was diagnosised with diabetes in Nov'08 and since then am on Melmet 500-Metamorphin twice daily. My Bg levels are under control with fasting sugars at 99mg and after food at 90mg. Am a hypothyroid and on thyroxin 75mg. I do workout at gym for abt 2 1/2 to 3 hrs 5 days a week. Since my diagnosis, am on low carb diet and hv lost 16kgs which was impossible before with my thyroid problem.
I hv a question, for last few weeks am experiencing pain in my left uper shoulder, which I presume is due to gastric trouble. It worsen when I lie down on my back the pain transfers to my chest and to my left arm. I can't even lie down on my left side as it pains also. The last option is to lie on my right side which is making it worse at times coz of my weight on one side for long time.
My hubby massages my back to relieve of the pain and hv observed that whenever he does the pain subsides with a number of burps. This causes alot of discomfort a week prior to my menustrual cycle. I have also observed that I dont get the pain during my work outs.

Can anyone help me on this as I stay in Abu Dhabi-UAE and finding a real good doctor here is nearly impossible. I had been to one who gave me an athritis tablet for pain relief but also cautioned me not to take it if am trying to concieve and yes we are trying to concieve. Would appreciate if anyone can help me on this.

Thanks and regards

Hi manjjs, welcome to the forum.

We cannot diagnose on the forum but from my experiences , this sounds a lot like Gall stone problems. You need to get to see a doctor and get ultra sound done to check your gall bladder.

Try keeping a food diary and see if there is anything that triggers this pain. In my case it was eating eggs but it can be triggered by high fat intake as well.

Alternatively, when you get an attack , can you go to the nearest hospital A & E ?

Thanks alot for the response Sugaless sue,

I had not thot abt gall stone. Though am scared to go to any hospitals here as I hv had bad experience in the past. Thanks for the advice I will surely start keeping a track on my food and well maybe visit a doc tomorrow and see. Try my luck.

Thanks and Regards

If it were gallstones, It might respond to a low carbohydrate diet.
Hana
And before anyone jumps on me, I've read that in more than one book

Quite right Hana. Pain is a great way to diet! I lived on raw veg and steamed fish/chicken till mine was sorted!!
Another thought is trapped wind!!!

Upper chest / shoulder pain which worsens on reclining can be transferred pain from an irritated diaphragm. You really must try to put aside your aversion to hospitals and have some investigations, as there can be some pretty serious reasons for such diaphragmatic irritation.
