Hi, hoping someone can help, I have felt very ill for the past year and have been in and out of Drs surgery so many times to get help so far with no diagnosis and left in a lot of pain.
My main symptoms are pain and swelling in hands, fingers, toes and behind knees and on ankles. I have put on so much weight over the past yr and no matter how much I diet it doesn't seem to make a difference.
I get a burning sensation in my eyes and alot of headaches, and the other thing is frequent and urgent need to go to wee! Even more so all night long!
I don't think amongst all the testing that has been done that they have even checked for diabetes.
I have just managed to get myself a blood glucose monitor a couple of weeks ago and wondered if anyone can advise me if a reading most days of 8.6 before eating a meal is a normal level? I have no idea what it is supposed to be but a few people have told me that is high?
Would be grateful if anyone could help me as I have had a never ending battle with my doctors who don't want to believe me and are ignoring my symptoms. Thanks!

Non medics are not allowed to diagnose and without access to medical test results, there's not enough info anyway. Keep pestering that doctor. It's all you can do. Ask for a second opinion. you have a right to ask, but he/she doesn't have to comply

If you live in the UK and are near an NHS Walk In Centre, go there and ask them to do a test for you. One of the services that they offer is diet and exercise information - which obviously can have a bearing on diabetes. Armed with information from them should help persuade your doc. Failing that, ask to see the practice nurse - they normally also deal with diabetes etc. or see another doctor.

Thanks for your help and advice, I have joined a new GP surgery now and after a year of trying to find out what's making me ill, they finally think it is diabetes. Glucose in urine samples and protein too, very high blood pressure and now they are doing a 12 hour fasting blood test in a few days time so I am hoping that soon will come an answer that has been long awaited!

Glad to see you have had good advice here and things are now improving for you with a possible diagnosis. If Diabetes is confirmed come back here and ask all the questions you need to. You will always get plenty of good advice, even if sometimes it isn't what the Dr ordered !
