Diabetes UK Fundraiser, or not?

I used to subscribe to DUK, and resigned in 2004. I had a telephone call yesterday from a guy whose name I missed, wanting me to subscribe again. He said I could pay however much I could afford by monthly direct debit - he suggested £2 per month. I agreed to do this, until he asked me for my bank account number and sort code. I told him I was unhappy about giving bank information and insisted that he send me the forms by post. I felt that I was being pressurised to give him the bank details. He knew that I'd resigned in 2004, but I still feel slightly uneasy.

Now I ask myself, am I being unnecessarily suspicious, and why is DUK doing this by telephone and not by letter? My telephone number is ex-directory so he got it from somewhere, and it hasn't changed from 2004. Unfortunately, I forgot to do 1471 until later, when I'd already received another call.

Regards,
Barbara

Email DUK and check. they are usually good and I know they are now asking for any donations for memebership, not a specific amount.

nannybarbara, you were so right not to give this info! The number of scams going on at the moment should mean that any responsible organisation ought never to allow these questions to be put over the phone  At the very least it causes the sort of uncertainty you now feel :!:

Thanks all,

I think I'll email DUK as Hana suggested, and if they are fundraising, at least point out that they should try the mail. Even if we are going to have a PO strike.

All the best
