Diabetic and delivery

Hi!
I had my first child by emergency c-section... my 2nd pregnancy the midwifes had no issue in allowing me to try for a normal birth, i think they would have preferred me to try for a normal delivery, however i chickened out and went for a 2nd c-section.
I think with induction there are slightly more risks (and i mean slightly) but this should be discussed with you in more details

When I had my last baby I had GD and I had an normal vaginal birth. I was put on a sliding scale of insulin, can't remember if I had my bloods checked but that was all. Baby had to monitored afterwards for her blood sugars and once she'd had 3 normal readings we were allowed home.

Hi,
Thank you for your response.I did ask my Dr, about normal delivery but informed me that indefinitely c-section would be done on 38th week (due to diabetic and previous c-section) but if i would have labor pain and the baby on canal before or on the 38th week, then it would be a normal birth. So i'll try to find out more on the issue. If you have any info. let me know.

Unfortunately it does depend on the hospital and there procedures... i am aware of at least 2 hospitals who do not like normal deliveries after c-section regardless of diabetes or not.
The risks (im just going by what i was told) are not the diabetes but mainly the induction for a type 1 diabetic. Gestational diabetes potentially can result in larger birth weights due to having high blood sugars (higher the blood sugars = more fat on the baby) however a type 1 should have close monitoring throughout pregnancy to try and keep sugars well controlled - dont know why im saying that as your already aware of this from 1st pregnancy
A diabetic will be induced at around 38 weeks (my hospital were very particular with this), not sure about gestational diabetes/t2 but all type 1's should be put on a sliding scale (i was put on actrapid - i actually thought that this insulin had been discontinued - was first insulin i was on back in the day when it was in a vial and you had to draw it up in a syringe )
If you have had a previous c-section, then induction could potentially cause ruptering HOWEVER this is the case for any pregnancy and not just pregnancy for those with diabetes - again just from what i was told by my hospital was this risk is a very teeny tiny risk.
