You need to get in contact with your diabetes team urgently to monitor how to manage your levels while pregnant.

Hi there congratulations on your pregnancy! My insulin requirements tripled when pregnant you need to get on top of it asap. I saw the obstetric diabetic team every 2 weeks from 6 weeks onwards they should keep a very close eye on you. It is very hard to control in pregnancy I won't lie to you but plenty of extra testing and adjustments and you should be fine x

Congratualtions!

Loke the others have said, call the hospital today, and get some help.

I have 2 healthy children, but I can honestly tell you that it was a lot of hard work during pregnancy. Your insulin requirements change a great deal. I can't tell you how much, because, not only is it different for everyone, it is was different for me each pregnanacy. Ketones are very bad for the baby, and need to be sorted out now.

Don't panic, just give them a call..and prepare to spend a lot of time going to appointments for the next 8 months. Each day you leave it is vital, so please, do somethingthis afternoon.

All teh best, and stay in touch!

It is so worth it though!

Hi, I'm a 31 year old type 1 diabetic, 11 weeks pregnant with twins!
My insulin requirement hasn't really changes yet, but I have increased my Basal by 2 units as my morning bloods were to high.
I've been checking my bloods more frequently and especially after a morning sickness.
When we went to see the specialist clinic at hospital I a couple of weeks ago asked about the ketones as I'd had a really bad bug that pushed my bloods up to 28 and landed me in hospital.
They said to try and aim for readings of 6 before a meal and 7 2 hours after, but as long as I was well hydrated and the ketones were only reading at a low level we would be OK.
Apparently even no-diabetic mums to be will test positive for Ketones when they are having morning sickness so don't be too hard on yourself.
Also worry and stress can push up blood sugar so as much as it's easy to say it try not to beat yourself up for not being perfect.
I've got everything crossed for you. X :)

HI and welcome,
Congratulations by the way.
For some reason diabetes and pregnancy aren't easy.
My pregnancies were very hard, like yourself, i spent my time in and out of the hospital due to kidney infections with my first son who is know 20yrs was born 4 weeks early and with my daughter know 18yrs old spent most of her pregnancy in hospital, she was born 7.5 weeks early, but they are both healthy.
I would go and have a check up with your GP or consultant as you may have an infection going on, especially with ketones you don't want to take any risks, and yes diabetes can change your sugars, but please get some medical advice. Just remember we are all different, we can only advice due to our own experiences.
Hope all goes well, keep in touch if you like.
Take care, drink plenty of water.
Tracey
