Diabetic Camp??

Hi
About 10yrs ago my Dad was told he has type2 diabetes, but he has never learnt to actually deal with it. Try as we might he blames us for his condition and continues to eat chocolate, take aways, cakes and whole lumps of cheese between homecooked meals, we only find out when he is caught in the act or the local takeaway owner comments.
We have tried talking to him and providing him with information regarding his condition e.g. websites/books etc, but he is still in denial and his doctor apparently tells him he's fine.
Things have recently got worse as he is now not sleeping more than 2hours and is having extreme mood swings and seems desperate to start arguments. This is having a huge strain on my mum as she is working 2jobs to try and support them.
Is there a UK diabetic camp where he can go and learn, and hopefully accept, his condition?

Hi flipflop,
First of all am sad to hear other members of the family are suffering because Dad has diabetes.
You say that Mum works 2 jobs. Has Dad retired or does he have other health problems?
Doctor says he is fine so what are his blood glucose measurements on average and what was his last HBA1c?
Dad has to want to change his outlook and no one can do it for him so I think you need to take a step back and let him get on with it. It is his condition and he has to manage it or not as the case may be. I am sure he is aware of the complications that can follow if he does not address the issues. He can educate himself by using a forum such as this and there is always someone here to answer questions that he may have. I do not know of a residential course but there may be someone who does.
Thinking of you and hope this helps,
Catherine.
