Diabetic Data Access

since my diagnosis in 2016 I have been keeping track of consumed meals (carb counting for the bolus shots) the actual bolus and basal shots, and of course the BG readings.

And at no time has my doctor actually asked to see that data. When he wants to know how I am doing he orders blood work and gets the data from the lab. I do all the work of recording this data mostly for myself (OCD) so I can make insulin unit decisions from real data rather than a wild guess or conforming to a pattern. So the fat that the doctor has not asked to see it should not bother me.

But it does a little. Both the Libre 2 I used to use and now the Dexcom G7 has a method of automatically sharing collected data. Does anyone's doctor ask to see it or do they ignore it like mine does?

My diabetes consultant uploads my Libre data every time I see him, and asks for an upload via the web if I haven't seen him for more than three months or so. He will also request an upload it I contact him with a problem.
Is your doctor a diabetes specialist, because if not he might not know you can upload and view your data.

My GP likes to review my Libre data when we have an appointment. No formal sharing of data. They just scroll through it on my phone. But then again, I'm non insulin dependent T2 and don't qualify for ongoing Libre 2 monitoring under NICE guidelines.

As a Type 1 my Libre results go direct to Libre link from my phone and the consultant has these in front of him when talking to me. If I visited a Gp they do not have this facility and are not at all interested. But quite frankly I am not interested on a GPs view either, their knowledge is far too outdated. Something they readily admit.

My GP and DN have never asked me for any information and I haven't seen either for a long time. They rely solely on Hb1Ac and a telephone call afterwards. I have never been asked how I have achieved consistent non-diabetic BG readings for over 2 years now.

I use a Dexcom G7 which feeds the Dexcom Clarity App. I self fund this CGM, but after taking a paper print out to an endocrinology appointment a few years ago, they were happy to get a Clarity sharing link from me.

That said, at my appointments when viewing the linked data, discussion has tended to focus on patterns and time in range for the previous 2 weeks of data only. But easy to continue sharing. Plus I was given a pump at the beginning of this year and it is comforting to know that I can always ask the diabetics pump team to review this data if I'm running into problems.

Agreed it is rare to share CGM data with a GP practice, but I have found my local staff very interested when I go to them for annual footchecks. My current practice had a number of staff trialing Libre 2s and Dexcom Ones when they were gearing up to issue these.

My endo/diabetes nurse offer the possibility to automatically share Libre data (which I declined).
As far as I know, they don't view the data unless a patient has a specific question or issue they want to look into with their HCP.
Possibly they have a quick look at the overview page to see if Libre flags any worrisome trends or patterns before appointments.

It can be very useful if you want/need some guidance or input on dose adjustments, but if not, there is no need really. My endo doesn't ask, she believes what I tell her.
