Hi, We have a 7yr old type 1 diabetic daughter. She was diagnosed at 18 mnths old. We are planning to get married next year but have no close family able enough to look after her whilst we go on honeymoon. Is there anyone out there who knows of anyone that can help in our situation. Jane

Hi, I think that you will have to rely on friends or family I'm afraid. We don't tend to leave our daughter and on the odd occasion we've left her to stay a weekend with Grandma she's had blood tests every two hours and phone calls several times a day to discuss dosages. For us it is not really a break more of a worry, but understandably our daughter loves spending time with her Grandma so we let her stay.

Perhaps she could go with you and spend some time in the 'kids club'. I know it's probably not the answer you wAnt, but may be it's a compromise so you get some time on your own but you don't have the worry of leaving her and the constant communication back home which may affect the quality of your holiday. leggott

If you have until next year then you should have time to train someone to look after your daughter. You might still need to be on the phone a lot or arrange your hospital to assist the person on the phone. If you don't have family or friend's able to help out I don't think there are even options for the non-diabetic child at age 7. Maybe if she was older you could have your honeymoon while your daughter was at a diabetic camp but you wouldn't be able to leave the country unless you had an emergency contact available.
