Hi ,

My name is Joan and I have been a diabetic for 7months but am in denial. I do not understand carbs. GI. and lots of other jargon are there any books i can read to help with my diet. also apart from water what is acceptable for a diabetic to drink. Please help!

Hi, I have found myself in the same boat as you, only for a much longer period of time. Have realised being in denial will not help, especially with the long term implications that accompanies DM. This site has some really good info on the condition so read well. Also it seems reading through this forum there are many people here with the same thoughts and experiences that are always willing to offer advice and support.

Try not to dwell too much on the negatives of the condition. Learn what you need to do to keep yourself healthy and not let it run your life.

Hi Joan, Amazon sell loads of books for low carb eating, Dr Bernstein is one - he is a diabetic. There are also lots of websites advocating low carb eating and living. Try googling low carb. As for drinks I actually dont like fizzy stuff or squash, I drink coffee with cream but I believe diet cola etc is ok in small doses. But mostly its water for me after midday.
