Morning all.

I am booked to have this test later on today and am starting to get very agitated about it. I'm not scared as such but have a real problem with any procedures.

I am going to go, especially after reading WhitbyJet's news yesterday but I really don't feel so good right now and I don't want to get in a panicky state when I get there.

Could some kind person please tell me how long it takes all in (I know drops have to be put in..aargh :( ) but how long after that do I get seen and what do they do. How long does this part take?

I trust people here more than HCP's so will listen to what you have to say.

Thanks from a very anxious LB.

Hi Ladybird,

They test your vision first then place dilating drops in the eye and you wait 15-20 minutes for the pupils to dilate, depending on how busy the clinic is you can be in and out in 30 mins, the drops effect your vision so don't drive for a few hours after.

Hi Ladybird :)
Here is a link to a thread where I described my eye test in detail, plus experiences of other members. I think that should tell you everything you want to know.

Many thanks both for the quick answers. Hopefully I should be out within an hour, hubby is with me so I just need to distract myself until then.

We don't drive so will be getting a cab home.

Thanks for the reassurance x

Aw ladybird - I hope all went well for you at the eye clinic, I think its important that everyone has their eyes checked.
I had my eyes checked a year ago, I had 3 appointments that showed no changes in my eyes, so on account of my good diabetic control I was discharged from the eye clinic. I spoke to my GP today, he said its obviously a mistake to discharge me, I still should have had regular checks. There you go.

seeing you dont like procedures and felt apprehensive my guess is that you will have come back home and all you wanted to do was settle down with a nice cup of tea and just relax, maybe even have a little sleep.

Thinking of you x

I always have a big gin after eye clinic!

hope it went well.

Hi Ladybird

Hope it went well at the eye clinic today. My appointment was last week and I was lucky that I didn't need drops  Hope you are just as lucky.

Let us know how you got on.

Thinking of you

Hey Ladybird,

Hope it went well. The procedure is really pretty straightforward, as you now know, though the drops can be an annoyance.

Last test I had done they had us all waiting in a very brightly lit waiting room. After 5 minutes I got up and turned the lights off. The receptionist grumbled but I got a round of aplause from everyone else.

I tend to find I follow snodger though I take a wisky and have a nap till the drops wear off as my eyes don't focus and I end up with a wicked headache.

Hope all went well

/A

Hi all.

Just wanted to say thanks for all your support, it means a lot to me.

Everything went just fine, I was seen by a lovely lady who could see how jittery I was (and there was me thinking I was putting on a good act!).
I had the drops, right eye was fine, left eye stung a fair bit..similar to what happens when you chop onions! Couldn't turn the lights off there as it shares it's waiting room with the blood testing clinic, speech therapy, ECG's but it didn't bother me as I wasn't affected much by the lights.

All done in half an hour (appt wasn't until 3.45) and home after. No naps for me and no booze either, just a nice cuppa :)

You're all just wonderful..what would I do without you. Have a hug

I am so glad it all went well for you Angie.
Been thinking of you and wondering how you got on.
I assume, like me, you got the results there and then and everything is fine?
