WD is a very popular programme - its amazing how many of my friends & family saw it. I didn't get any diabetic chocolates for Christmas, though one of my sons gave me a packet of prunes!
As you know, a number of us on the diabetes.co.uk forum have experienced improvement in our diabetes management by questioning the NHS/DUK dietary advice to "eat starchy carbohydrates with every meal." In my case I was becoming crippled with leg pain which threatened my mobility. I reduced carbohydrate consumption from last May & the improvement in my health has been dramatic. Blood tests have shown an improvement in HbA1c, all blood sugar measurements, cholesterol, together with a weight loss of 6-7 Kg, a reduction in tiredness. My tennis is also back up to club standard.
The questionable dietary advice diabetics are given could be having a serious affect on the nation's health, in that we are told that a diabetic diet is the same healthy diet for everyone. The wrong advice is being given to diabetics, & it could be that that dietary advice is the cause of the obesity epidemic, rather than the cure, in that starchy carbohydrates overload the pancreas & so lead to diabetes. Excess carbohydrates lead to obesity. Its not obesity that is the cause of diabetes, but the diet, which also leads to complications.
