Diabetic maculopathy

Hello I just want some advice really, I’ve been diabetic type 1 for 12 years now
. I went for my eye test and got a letter that I am starting to show signs for diabetic maculopathy. I’ve never had any problems with my eyes before. They’ll see me again in 6 months. I’m super anxious and really scared. Thank you
 
A couple of years ago I received a letter saying I had diabetic maculopathy, and was told I would receive an appointment to see an eye specialist. Months later I saw the specialist who told me that whatever the eye screening had picked up had disappeared. There has been no problem since.

Hi @Kayleighlouise These letters should never have been made standard. They must have caused incalculable stress over the years. I even had one 20 years ago from the Eye Screening Service that caused a referral to the biggest hospital in eastern England, claiming that there were new signs of deterioration. I went to the appointment and was told by the top ophthalmologist that what they had seen was scarring from between 1979 - 1983! I had another from them claiming I had never attended an appointment. As I carefully keep ALL medical paperwork, I threw it back at them and reminded them of this particular episode. Screening and checks are vital - I owe it to them that I can see what I'm typing very well. But they should be more careful with what they send out. I hope you steer clear of any deterioration.
 
Just wanted to update you all I have been told it’s got a lot better from my last eye test in January
I have very good eye sight.
They’ll see me again in 6 months
But they aren’t concerned as it’s improved

Hi

I am in a similar situation I got my letter yesterday. I feel really concerned. My blood sugars are controlled well but this wasn’t the case in my teens.

Did they do anything different at this eye screening you went to ?

I had similar at my screening in 2019, was seen at the hospital within 8 weeks for a follow up - the specialist took a quick look, their student a slightly longer one, and said "I don't know why they've refered you I can't see anything at all" but I'd much rater that the screening service erred on the side of caution, and I had a few worried weeks than they ignored something and I lost/damaged my sight. My sister has a chronic eye condition because a GP took a quick look at her eyes and prescribed antibotic eye drop for what was shingles on her optic nerve.
