Diabetic needles

Hi everyone, i have been a diabetic for about 3 and a half years, and have always kept to my routine fairly well. I have often experienced problems getting the needles for my insulin pens from local pharmacies, often having to wait 2 or 3 days for them to order them in. This week i have had extra difficulties, none of my local pharmacies have been able to get hold of my needles from their suppliers, i have been waiting nearly a week now (i always order my diabetic medication a week in advance) and only have enough needles to get through one more day. I was wondering if anyone else had ever experienced similar problems and would have any advice on what i could do to locate needles elsewhere? or manage my levels if i am unable to get needles for the weekend.
Thanks in advance

Hi spatch sorry to hear you are having problems getting needles. I haven't had any problems in the past with the supply of needles. My needles are 4mm and I use a new one with every injection, so alot of needles.

Iwas just wondering, have you ever asked the pharmacy or your Gp why there is a supply problem? and you mustn't go without your needles, ever. So I would make an appointment to see your Gp or DSN as soon as possible, to try and get it sorted out quickly. Do you live in an remote area which could be causing supply problems or maybe your needles are less common than other ones.

I hope you get it sorted out very soon and I would only get my diabetes medication from my GP/Pharmacy.

Best wishes RRB

Thank you for the reply, i use 8mm needles as i have quite tough skin apparently lol I do live in a fairly remote area so i am kinda used to there being distribution problems as i mentioned before. Just happens to have been worse on this occasion, i will consult my surgery in the morning. Thank you again :)

Tell your surgery ASAP - they should be able to change the regime if the needles are indeed unavailable.

If they can't help and you are acutely out of insulin and/or needles, go to A&E.
