Went to see her today she was really helpful got lots of ideas regarding carbs and things, going to see the dietician about understanding carbs etc then back to see her and dietician together to suggest best option for me including a new injection that's not insulin but can help with weight and stuff seemingly it helps u with ur own insulin cant really describe it but possibly try that along with insulin l am getting at minute if not then it will be the other way of injecting four times a day and a long acting one can't really understand it all a lot to take in, took hubby with me so he also understands what we need to do sorry long post but hopefully getting somewhere and she was pleased with my readings since trying really hard to get good control

Hi agnes

I'm confused it sounds as though the injection they are talking about is either Byetta or Victoza which is for T2's as it relies on having the ability to produce insulin so can't see how it would work for a T1!

Carbs wise, you need to learn the carb counting so that you can adjust your insulin need appropiately to the carbs you eat, also you need to consider other factors, such as exercise so that you can adjust your dose of insulin to compensate for how this effects your blood glucose levels, so that you don't end up with an hypo or an high bg..

Hi Agnes,

I would love to know what this 'new injection' is, does your other half not recall the name of it?

Byetta and Victoza (glucagon-like peptides) help to stimulate insulin but they also help to inhibit glucagon release and therefore could be of some use for people with type 1.

I believe some doctors in the US have been recommending the usage of these for people with type 1. I should probably point out that this is off label use though so I wouldn't expect this to become a state recommended treatment for at least some time.

Yes that's it the nurse does recommend it and told hubby to go to gp about it she thinks it's best to try this route before trying the 4 times a day injection along with a long acting one I will give anything a try and gonna learn all about carbs

Good luck with it then Agnes, not heard of Byetta and Victoza being used in type 1's but we learn something new everyday, hope you get to grips with the carb counting and soon it will become second nature! :)

Good luck with the changes Agnes

I found the idea of carb counting quite daunting to start with but i am getting used to it now
