Diabetic shop

Have just browsed the shop on this website and got a few ideas.Things that would be useful to have such as Hypo Wallet,Gluco Tabs,Diabetes id card.Rather costly items but things that would be ideal to have in the house just in case seeing as there are now 2 of us that are diabetic.I wonder if these items would be available on script as we arent exactly flush with cash being on benefits.Made a note to ask the diabetic nurse at my appointment on that.Should really have sumat for Hypo treatment though.

If you are both Type 2s, it is unlikely you would or will suffer from a dangerous hypo. T2s, and indeed non-diabetics, can suffer hypos, but our livers will help us out if we go really too low. That said, reports of T2s suffering hypos sounds rather unpleasant.

It feels to me that for me to keep a supply of Glucogel, or the like, at hand is a bit over the top. Should I feel rough, I'd start by just having a cup of tea with milk to bring me up a bit. If that didn't work, I'd eat something else, like one of my OH's biscuits, or even add a bit of sugar to a second cup of tea. I don't believe I need to spend money on that safety net.

I don't know how you guys get on for testing strips, but most T2s don't get those, so I doubt there would be great enthusiasm to prescribe hypo preventers - just in case.

For T2s, especially those fortunate enough not to be taking medication, wearing a medic ID bracelet or pendant is a matter of personal choice. Again, I don't.

I'm sure there will be others, with other views along to provide balanced input.

I'm sure you could stretch to a bottle of lucozade or some mini packs of haribo or the like if hypos are an issue.
The Diabetes nurse should have a few ID cards they could give you.
