Diabetics R Us

Morning all.

Walking 11yr old to school bus stop and back twice today.
He's doing brilliantly.

Blazer is a bit too big though. I wish I'd bought size lower.
He loves his new trousers and wore nice shirt for first day. He loved his new dress shoes too. Very very smart.
I've showed him how to make himself more comfortable once out of school grounds in the heat. Blazer was frying him with black trousers and shoes. I'm pleased I met him yesterday out of school. Today though I'm only meeting him off return journey bus.
 
He will grow into it as my mum used to say when my new school blazer was like a tent on me. And the other kids would say who made your blazer Toapes? ( a tent making company in Plymouth at that time)
 
I've had a great day in beautiful warm sunshine. We went to Cragside in Northumberland. A huge estate with 40 miles of way-marked walks, a 6 mile circular drive at 15mph with plenty of parking laybys and picnic tables, National Trust run. Lakes, streams, waterfalls, bridges, walled gardens, huge rock garden, steep crags, moorland all clad in purple heather, pine forest, rhododendron labrynth to get totally lost in, and an absolute must for any engineers among you - home of the late William Armstrong, mechanical and hydro engineer who brought hydro electric lighting to the world. His home was the first in the world to have elecrtric lights, powered by water, plus a lift, and other stuff. All still working and on show. Wonderful day out.

Still no cat. The neighbours made a beautiful grave in a spot that catches the morning sun with a little cross (it seems all pets are catholics, I have a couple of crosses in my backyard as well).
I'll go and write 'Kareltje' on the cross if he isn't back by tomorrow afternoon.
There are not many stray cats around here...
 

May I ask if Kareltje means anything? For instance, my freind has a long haired black cat called Raz, short for Rasputin because he is so charismatic and rules the whole family.

It doesn't really have a meaning. Karel is a very common Dutch name, and the Dutch love to make everything smaller by putting 'tje' or 'je' behind about every word. (For instance 'nice weather' (weer) becomes 'lekker weertje' (nice small weather), and we seldom drink a 'kop koffie', it's always a 'kopje koffie', even if it comes in a giant mug.) Even my name means little Ann, which is perfectly normal, 115 kilo's and all

My cat's name was Kareltje because he reminded me of a children's book which I'd totally forgotten about until I saw this kitten. It's about a young stray cat in the city getting adopted to a place in the country where he grows up to be a very happy cat.

Ahh, what a cutie! Much more relaxed than Raz is.

Just put heating on.
Keep getting low blood pressure. Seeing nurse on Wednesday. Too busy and tired before then. Unless I feel more ill, of course.
 
I guess it must be coming into your winter there, it's spring this month, still cold were i live, but lovely just to be out of winter.

Today was 2 dead chickens and a dead ****. Two of them headless. Probably saved the rest by running to their pen naked when I heard them scream tonight. And I don't have a place where I can safely close them in at night so not sure what will happen to the rest. And the guinea-pigs live nextdoor to the chickens, so they're not safe either.


Edit: That would be an offensive dead male chicken.

Just catching up on this thread - haven’t popped in for a while
@Antje77 my very sincere condolences to you. My little terrier died after a very short illness a few weeks ago ( also cancer like your belived pooch @JohnEGreen) and the whole family are still bereft. Our neighbour’s cat seems to have adopted us though which is quite sweet of her ( she would never have been tolerated when Tilly was alive) losing a much loved pet is, in many ways , worse than losing family members - my daughter said she felt guilty feelung this way but I could understand it. It’s horrible.

I loved your post on how the Dutch language works and you your little mog got her name.
 

You've had some really sad news over the last couple of days, have another hug. I do hope things settle down for you and that this kind of thing never happens again.
